A nineteenth
century masonry structure, this villa was originally designed
for a lifestyle that was radically different from the way we live
today. The kitchen, for instance, which had been a small dark
room in the back of the house, was moved to the pool level and
opened up to the garden. The extensive renovation included transforming
an existing terrace into a large indoor living room. Trying to
tie this addition to the vocabulary of the house, the roof was
made of the same red tile as all other existing roofs, while the
large expanse of glass allows for uninterrupted views and introduces
a contemporary element in the façade.
