The main house is the renovation of an existing building, whose large gentle roofs echo the shapes of rural architecture in this region of Southern Italy. Wishing to retain the nature of those old structures, the house was kept as a succession of open spaces that flow into one another. At the intersection of three different pitches, a roofless bathroom comes as a surprise and brings natural light in to the core of the house. The Guest house was thought of as a modified retaining wall, in order not to clutter the garden. Taking advantage of the natural grade change of the terrain, this room is dug into the hill, and its front wall is also a stair to reach the upper garden.
