Based on
a simple nine-square grid, this one-story building develops an
irregular array of roof configurations that allow for clerestory
windows and courtyards, so that natural light penetrates throughout.
As an element of counterpoint, a steel structure forming a wall
draws a gentle curve across the site, turns into a wall of books
in the library when it intercepts the building, and becomes the
East wall of the sanctuary. The steel structure is meant to accept
stones that people in the community might wish to bring there,
as memory of places they visited, or of places they are attached
to.
